And now for something completely different...

I beg you pardon for my mistake! I normally wouldn't mix up adjective and adverb :autsch:
I slapped myself in the face three times. Hopefully, this will cover as punishment?^^
I wasn't aware that Otto was creator of these fine lines. Given that I will say another prayer to Otto, lest HE be furious :D

I slapped myself in the face three times.
Which side? I hope both sides three times ...

In fact the mistake you made is one of the most seen here. The main reason for this probably is that in german the difference is not that clear.

I'm aware of that... Maybe it was a very dangerous combination of too much Denglish I read lately and too much wine I poured into myself yesterday? :WD
Anyway I'll continue to give me the cane :autsch:

I could till kill someone right now. Someone set the off the fire alarm at fucking 3 am this morning. Luckily I was still awake writing a final essay... and good thing that its not that cold yet. Its always people forgetting something on the stoves. When do these idiots ever learn? :wall:

Forget it... They'll never learn. Otherwise the universe would instantly collapse and be replaced with something even more anoying then stupid people ;)
The sad thing is that stupidity results in even more stupidity. And finally the blind are leading the blind... Speaking of politics, especially american, is yet another topic :WD

Do not even start talking with me about US politics... it would take about forever to finsih that topic.

Never argue with an idiot, he will pull you down to his level and then beat you with his superior experience!

We had people burning cookies, cabbage, brockoli, nudels, oatmeal, the stupidity of people amazes me everyday. After all this is a college where only 6% of the applicants get accepted and then pay 40.000 $ each year for being here

So this is the elite of the elite in the US? :WD
No wonder they screw up most of their foreign politics (and suspectedly most of inner as well)^^

Well, no talking about that now. I'll just enrage too much and that's bad for my health. Wasn't it Einstein saying something about infinity of the universe and human stupidity, being not sure about the first? Fits perfectly, doesn't it?^^

No, the smart people do not go into politics, but they people to do politics, thus making a higher profit with the cooporations. If everything works out nicely I will be working on Wallstreet in 4 years as either an analyst or Investment banker

Have you ever noticed that guys look quite refreshed and are fully dressed when they leave the dorms upon a firealarm, while the gals usually come downstairs without a face, barefoot and in robes? It always amused me.

What? Like our Yale-hero Alexej Vayner "will"? Hahaha.

Hi guys :hy:

just looked in here some times and now I think I finally found a way to increase my English skills outside of school again.

Still two years ago, in the old school English was one of my favorite subjects. This year it's totally different. English consisting of letters combined with such a stupid teacher really sucks.

I'm looking forward to the time about February. From there on, I at least will (hopefully) have a better teacher in the BOS...

Don't know how good my English skills are right now, but nearly 2 years of horrible English lessons makes the English a bit rusty ;)

:santa:

You're welcome to participate in the conversation ;) The more, the better actually...
It's amazing how much learning and comprehending a language, thus gaining language skills depends on the teacher one has. I was lucky to have pedagogically rather competent teachers in english, but my latin sucks due to the teachers (nice persons but not capable of teaching properly^^).

I just counted my english teachers. Result: 7 different teachers in 9 years. Half of them unqualified

Only half of them? You're a lucky bastard ;)

How did you manage to reach your current level in english?^^

In my case it wasnt the wrong teachers. I were just a bad pupil back in the days. Spending no attention at all, regardless who was teaching me.

Anyway, I learn most of my English while speaking to people in foreign countries, reading english books or watching english movies.

Schools are overrated :D

Right now I got my seventh teacher in English. Retrospective I can say that most of them where quiet good. Only 2 of them where bad ones. (1 wasn’t that good, but she was just old ;))

@Mobbelsche: I have to agree with you. Bad teacher = bad in language. I think the teacher is never as important as in English.

Let’s hope that the English teacher at the BOS (Berufsoberschule) is not as bad as the German one. I get sick while thinking of seeing her in 3 hours again… -.-

Let's say the quality of the teacher is important when learning a foreign language. On the other hand it's fairly easy (in comparison to other languages) to compensate for bad english-teaching. Our western world is extremely "americanized". That makes it easy to surround yourself with english. And hearing, reading, experiencing a language in day-to-day use is really helpful.
It get's worse when you start learning things like japanese or arabic (believe me^^)...

i am very happy that i have such a good english teacher.
not only that she realy knows what she's doing, she is also a very nice person :)
we're exchanging books and movies all the time.

other topic: how are your christmas preperations going?
i now have all presents, jsut need to wrap them ;)
i'm realy looking forward to christmas, although i'm not realy in the mood, 13° (_not_ fahrenheit :) ) don't encourage christmas feelings...

well, i had an appointment at the doctor today because me knee hurts like hell when i jump. it's nothing bad, i have to go to "krankengymnastik" (too lazy for leo right now, sry), but i wanted to go skiing in about a week. guess i'll save a lot of money, because the doc said: you can go, but it'll hurt like hell.

:/

Yup, Christmas really rocks. A lot of cookies, all the lights, presents, the feeling and everything what’s around it.

What annoys me a bit at Christmas in our days is that it got very commercial. But I think we can't change it, we only can ignore that somehow...

13°C?
We are you living? Majorca? ^^
Here it's fucking freezing cold. About 3°C right now.
(Do native speakers really say things like "fucking freezing cold"? ^^)

 You shouldn't use the f-word or other four-letter words. But I believe many native speakers in the US do so. Anyway, I don't know. But lack of knowledge is the source of belief, isn't it? :WD

Christmas will hopefully be really nice. I have all presents here and am looking forward to seeing my family again. The whole bunch together. That's what christmas is all about as far as I am concerned. I don't need any presents; don't even desire anything material. I just want a week of peace, nice dinner(s), chat and games. I learned to value these kinds of things when I first spend christmas abroad visiting my then-girlfriend in Japan. And believe me: Compared to Japanese Kurissumassu german christmas is NOT the least bit commercial ;)

Oh, anything that sounds like swerwords are frequently used outside of official occasions. something like fucking cold is just like "verdammt kalt". so its just plain normal around here. but you should choose a more selective choice of words for the dinner table with professors
