What an asshole. As a dog owner myself I have to live with people attacking me (verbally) when they see my dogs. And the reason for this is a bunch of idiots who can't believe that their dogs look dreadful to other people. Dog owners like this guy should be forced to give their pets away.

I don't know the dog or your fright level but next time you should do the following: Stop before you pass the dog and its owner and tell him to put his dog on the leash while you pass by. Very politely of course. So both of you can avoid the chasing.

@Mobbelsche: Even if he had pepper spray or something like that there is no need to do so. With 95% probability the dog wouldn't even touch him or his bike if he just stopped and yelled at the pet. But this is hard to do if you are afraid of dogs and don't know how to handle them correctly.

If you read the following things you'd see that we both agree that the owner is the one to blame. He has to be responsible towards human needs in the first place. One can not expect all people to understand a dog's behaviour. I myself had to learn to avoid chases in the first place. And I was really scared of dogs... Stopping is always the best thing to do. Talking to the owner (politely) would be the follow-up. By now I even like it when a dog challenges me. I know that I won't win but I also see that they really love running. Makes me smile

Another good thing to learn would be to flatly ignore the dog when passing by. Looking into a dog's eye means challenge and awareness which might startle a dog. Running by casionally is quite normal and acceptable to most dogs

I happen to know how to handle dogs. Had dogs for the majority of my life (17 of 20 years ^^) but still I'm so afraid I'm nearly paralysed when I see a dog. And stopping is hard when the dog is right after a corner ^^

We got our dogs as whelps, they were hardly bigger than our cat at that time and basically big fluffy balls. Bella, the blond one, came running (well, more hopping) in my direction and I ran off. Never thought I could jump over that garden fence but I could..just to give you an impression of how scared I am of unknown dogs.

For this companies we should write an elaboration about the order of this event. I love german for that particular reason It's just so much fun building one seemingly endless word after the other. No other language I had the luck to learn so far offers such excessive compounding possibilities^^

Regarding description of words that you can't translate properly: It's a nice chance to work on one's language skills when you are forced to build a whole sentence just to describe one word
