And now for something completely different...

I'm a generally happy, unflappalbe person. Offence is futile, hehe.

A distant friend finished some social science subject in Vienna and now works as a carpenter. In his oppinion there's nothing you can't express with wood.

I'm probably not as eloquent an don't have that experience but I'm inclined to agree with him. It's a great work and the best is that you see every little mistake. There's no work that gets you such a great respone on how you've done.

Edit:

Still easier said than done, drago. I simply have none at all. Well, "simply" is most likely not the best word here..

Sorry, maybe I should have asked the question differently. I understand that you are indeed a bit clueless about what to do. I rather wanted to know, what you would like to do in general. You are a good swimmer, like to work with your hands, have a physical problem and don't like to study. Right so far?

So as your body is worn, you are probably to work with your brain or find something your body can handle. How about fine mechanics? No need to carry big loads but craftmanship as well. Working with a computer maybe? No need to study to become a programmer, web designer, secretarian...

Can you drive cars? Maybe there is a kind of job you would like to do with a car or maybe some heavy engine.

There are a lot of possibilities but first of all you need to know
a) what you are able to do
b) what you like to do

I for myself made learned banker but during the education I recognized that this was not the right thing for me to do so I studied IT afterwards, but I finished the job first so I had an exam at the end. It is not unusual to change plans but you need a goal.

Oh, I'm applying for Ph.D. placements. I'm already in my senior year for Biochemistry here in the UK. Did my GRE general test with - hopefully - somehow sufficient scores and most of my personal statements are already finished. My list embraces 7 grad-schools in the states, 4 in the UK and two German international Ph.D. programs. So I'll have a chance of landing at least somewhere prestigious (fingers crossed).

Sweet, here I come! Though, I'd prefer Cold Spring Harbor, they are simply the best for my subject.

I would mind. How come you have time at all, if you do rowing and attend Columbia courses in economics? Btw. you should try getting into UPenn business school for your masters.

I shall invite you for coffee one day, if I get admitted at the east coast.

I hope you make it to the one you like the most. *daumendrueck*

About time. i know I should study more at the moment, and my grade could be slighty better already, but its just freshman year and I had two years of german ariforce beforehand that made llearning a bit difficult at the beginning. But time is a mere matter of management. Of course I have to spend a lot of time on my books, and crew basicly eats up what is left, or the other way around. but I still spend time here in the forum reading an posting, so why should I not find like 4x30 min a week for translations. Most texts in this forum are not that hard to translate and it will help my essay skills propably too.

However, the work load I deal with is nothing in contrast to economics and especially law students. That's the reason why I was suprised that Riven is willing to spend a couple of hours per day translating German texts, given that IvyLeague universities aren't known for their easy-going studies. Let me exemplify this with Yale: they have quasi sleeping-chambers in the library, which is open 24/7 throughout the whole year!

I know some of my friends basicly live in the library. it is amazing how busy that place can be in the middle of the night. 4 am and no free spaces in the study rooms....

About graduate school. I have 3 school in focus for that, but UPenn is not among them. The will either be Harvard, Columbia oder Cambridge (UK). The economics department here at Columbia is amazing. last week a heard a lecture by Jeffrey Sachs about the economic and else problems of glaobal warming. sinply amazing this man.

Probably the best business school worldwide.

Anybody heard news today about a kid taking a (empty) hand grenade to school?

its completely regardless in which way he got it, the thing is that he got it...
something like that shouldn't reach the hands of 10 year old childs, in fact it shouldn't reach any hand except for business orders (e.g. Federal Armed Force)

How could a 10 year old british kid be malicious? It is not like there are numerous terrorist attacks in elemenrtary school on the island of apes over there... 10 years... how stupid must a teacher be to believe that such things can be malicious? When I was ten years old I shot around with my water gun, sometimes taking it to school for fun during lunchbreaks, and nobody thought a black waterpistol to be malicious....

except when you hit the other kids with it :D

"We believe his actions were foolhardy and thoughtless rather than intentionally malicious and he is fully aware that the consequences of his actions have caused distress and anxiety, not only to his fellow students but also to parents and staff at the school."
So what is the point in excluding him?

The question is: where were the parents of the child? How can a 10-year-old get a grenade into his fingers? Even if it is harmless, the parents must know that it seems not so harmless to others. Good reason not to allow the child to even touch it outside the own house.

Seems some people here are having a hard weekend. Not able to write english any more, hm? ;)

I myself had a weekend of much work so I will recreate on this afternon having a big pizza, two bottles of coke and some movie. I just have to decide which one.

What's your personal recreation method?

Actually I'm not doing much but recreating. Under normal circumstances I prefer listening to music or some easy workout. I was mountainbiking just a few minutes ago and I did what I do every single time..I didn't stop when my body told me to do. So now I'm hanging here and the last drop of energy has left my body. Had a nice high-speed chase with a dog in Hochdahl. But the dog's owner was pretty cute so that compensates. While we're at it - it's kind of weird for somebody like me,who has been around dogs for his whole life, to be scared of dogs. But I just can't help it.

well, I have much to work recently
beside the fact I have to learn over 60 words within 2 days, I'm still updating my Homepage and doing some work for my Forums @ d2wiki
the remaining time I simply relax without some computer or write something in htis forum from time to time

The reason I didn't write here is, that I couldn't thought of something which could have been said in addition to that recent topic...
if thats the case I use to write nothing rather than writing something completly different :D

Yesterday I helped my mother carrying stuff around and it was a fu**ing large amount of stuff. :motz:
Today I spent most of the time with little tasks, which summed up during the week and wanted to be done. Now I'll relax a bit and after that I'll be doing homework. Blech, bad weekend. :flopp:

My to-do list is extended every bloody day. So many things I wanna do, yet so little time. Bah, I can't wait to go home over the x-mas holidays. My brother had the strange idea to fly to "somewhere warm at the mediterranean sea". Only, there's no place with bathing weather in Europe in Winter. Investment bankers are confused...

And I Bankers usually have a lot of money, so prepare for somewhere warm my friend ;) . I just returned to my dorm rom after a lot of not sleeping. Yesterday I had my innitiation to a fraternity here on campus... and i did not drink anything alcoholic the weeks before due to mononucleosis... so the first night getting drunk again was great. Having fun at fraternities is great, but usually never sober... But anyway. I wasted way to much time in the last week with other thigns, so tonight I will not sleep much either and work on a few papers... sounds very interesting does is not?
