But it's not the idea of this proposal to get an inoffical forum... it should be a real party of the PlanetDiablo.eu-community.

What do you study?Riven schrieb:Hehe, tank you. The only two schol that I thought about applying were Harvard and Columbia. In the end I prefered to live in Manhattan, so I chose Columbia. Its nice here, but the professors can be extremley hard in terms of workload for every class. Their class is always the most important one...
There are already hundreds of English forums around. Why make an effort to create a new one full of Germans?About an english Forum: I agree that is is worth a try. Just a testrun cannot be that hard. If it does not work out we have tried at least. I would like to help building that forum if it ever comes to be constructed and would volunteer as a mod for it, if any are needed. My english should be well enough for it, since I do all my studies in that language at the moment and live in an english speaking country, well ok, english and spanish speaking country.

I'm almost done with my applications for Harvard. (Have you seen the part in the online application asking about your affiliations to any Harvard societies or relatedness to famous alumni? creepy) Although everybody keeps telling me that NYC is the most european place in the states, I'd definitely prefer Boston/Cambridge. The more people the less comfortable I am.

As this is some kind of small talk thread it is ok as it is.p.s. Can't we put this somewhere where the postcounter is on.
This honor is due to Smoky, it was his idea. But I would prefer to have a little content before opening a clan forum. So if we had some english guides and links, it would be easier to attract people there. Nobody needs another clan forum for more smalltalk.Maybe Drago could establish the a Forum in the clan-section an we all can contribut something there (translating Guides etc)
Oh, I'm applying for Ph.D. placements. I'm already in my senior year for Biochemistry here in the UK. Did my GRE general test with - hopefully - somehow sufficient scores and most of my personal statements are already finished. My list embraces 7 grad-schools in the states, 4 in the UK and two German international Ph.D. programs. So I'll have a chance of landing at least somewhere prestigious (fingers crossed).Riven schrieb:1) I am going to be a Economics / Political Science Major. All the Ivy League Universities have a bit of a long and strange apllication process. Have you taken the SAT and the TOEFL yet? If not take the TOEFL as fast as possible, it is not easy to get a slot in time. Are you going to apply for early decision or normal deadline? If you do any sports its good to tell the coach of the team beforehand, you might get recruited, which will speed the whole application process up amazingly. Are you only going to apply for harvard or are any of the other uvy league School of interest for you? Getting into harvard without connestions is a pain. About 6-8% of the applicants get in. For Columbia 16 k applicants tried for 1100 places. So better apply at many schools and chose afterwards the one with you like best. This is caled the safety school principle. If you have any more question feel free to ask me anything. I can even give you the mail adress of two of german friends from Harvard.
Sweet, here I come! Though, I'd prefer Cold Spring Harbor, they are simply the best for my subject.About Europe in the states. New York is definetily the most multicultural place over here, but Boston with its buildings and its british charme is definetely more european.
I would mind. How come you have time at all, if you do rowing and attend Columbia courses in economics? Btw. you should try getting into UPenn business school for your masters.English part of the forum: I think its just going to be very useful if we can get a little more diversion into the whole forum. I would not mind spending a few hours a week in translating news or other stuff to help either.
Tanks, drago. I agree totally with. If the content is enough, we can think about the next step... we should get it slow on and not too fast.drago schrieb:This honor is due to Smoky, it was his idea. I do understand your point. The last two years at university were quite a piece of cake and I had a lot of fun. It is merely now in my final year that the burden of work is very large compared to before. Unfortunately, the prospects for a job in science never brighten up and it always gets worse.DeLaDragon schrieb:Don't get me wrong, Chemiker. I really admire the work you put in your education. I mean, after all it's Harvard. But the way you talk about all this, like "somewhere prestigious", "how come you have time at all..", don't you ever think it's just plain too much? Again, I really admire and probably even envy you on that account but to my mind you have to find a balance between working and spare time. The more effort you put in, the more compensating activities you need for that.
You'll be probably the one making money but it seems that you miss out a lot in these years..
hey have quasi sleeping-chambers in the library, which is open 24/7 throughout the whole year!

However, the work load I deal with is nothing in contrast to economics and especially law students. That's the reason why I was suprised that Riven is willing to spend a couple of hours per day translating German texts, given that IvyLeague universities aren't known for their easy-going studies. Let me exemplify this with Yale: they have quasi sleeping-chambers in the library, which is open 24/7 throughout the whole year!
I might be a geek, but I still have a good life. My compensating activities embrace Gym, socialising and even building human pyramids. Thanks for your concerns DeLa.![]()
I'm a generally happy, unflappalbe person. Offence is futile, hehe.DeLaDragon schrieb:I hope you weren't offended by any of my statements. It just seemed so "studies and nothing else"![]()
A distant friend finished some social science subject in Vienna and now works as a carpenter. In his oppinion there's nothing you can't express with wood.I still admire you and everyone who knows his place in life. Unfortunately I haven't found mine yet. I studied English/German for 2 semesters and then tried working at a cabinetmaker's..I loved the last but my body can't stand the work..bitter considering that I'm only 20.
I just hope I'll find the right thing for me, soon. Chances aren't getting any better by doing nothing educational..
Edit:
@drago
I thought that was clear by this post..I have no clue. I loved to work with the wood but there's no way I can manage the work. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind working long and hard. But it's just too much. And that's like this in all areas of craftsmanship.
