And now for something completely different...

It seems interest in this thread is not as high as I had hoped when I started the thread. Last post is three months ago.

As this was a test thread to see how many people are interested in foreign laguages on this forum the result is disillusioning. Although there were a dozen regular posters the frequency in this thread was rather low.

What does this mean for an english sub/clan forum ? Should one even try it? What's your opinion?

Wow, didn't notice this threads...
I like the idea, so count me in guys. Let's speak some English!

Hm... any Dawn of War players around here?

:hy: again.

I seem to lose interest after a few posts in Threads where the theme is not completely to my liking. Strangely, here it wasn't. May have to do with me being lazy.

Well. Let's see what happens next.

I agree that the repondence was rather dissapointing in the long run. It appears for most users here that writing in english is too tidious and for many people basicly not possible. I liked the discussions in this nice round, but to maintin this thread we might as well ask for it to be pushed over to the comunity threads, were it may blossom and grow, till we can spread the foreign word to more areas of the forum.

The original idea that was suggested in the KLA, as I understood and supported it, was to create an english speaking part of the forum dedicated to diablo ii strategy, so that non-german speaking diablo ii players could benefit more easily from all the knowledge about the game PlanetDiablo.eu has to offer. This sounded great to me but was rejected/indefinitely postponed by forum admins, for different reasons as lack of people to put in charge, too much work, etc..

Now I don't see how creating an english-speaking off-topic thread, in this particular part of the forum where most people actually stopped playing the game long ago, could have helped with the original idea.

So I quite agree that it is disappointing to see that this thread never became more than an "english-practice" thread, but I am not really surprised by that, because it definitely lacks a clear goal. Most people who really want to write in english on a regular basis to practice attend forums in english, i guess.

Now my opinion is that, if you really want to start a project to translate guides and other useful informations about the game into english, we could start that clan forum. I am actually translating TitanSeal Attackspeed Calculator FAQ at the moment, for example. Even if I'm not really doing it fast...
But if your idea has nothing to do about the knowledge about the game, i think it will never work, lacking some real motivation.

I agree. While I have no problem speaking english (or writing in this case), I just didn't have ideas to write about. However I think, that an english speaking part _about_ Diablo2 could and would be more succesful. The main problem could be finding english speaking mods, but I would apply for that job, seeing as I already spend quite a lot of time in the forums.

btw: Has anyone done the cambridge proficiency exam?

I have not done that particular english test yet, but have successfully wasted time on the TOEFL, which is nessesary, but pretty expensive, 5 hours long and boring as hell. As soon as one knows english fairly well the test is not a problem. I got 29/30 points in all 4 parts. But its mandatory for foreign students in order to apply to english universities and a lot of employers require something similar.

whereas the proficiency is supposed to be f*cking hard. Even for native speakers. The Cambridge first & advanced are supposed to be fairly easy

Of course you are right, but it was the easiest way of testing the general interest in that matter. Opening a new clan forum was not possible for a while (technically; I wonder if it is now) and it would have taken some effort of at least half a dozen people on a regular base to just keep it going for the first months until a decent number of users was collected.

However, if somebody is willing to give it a try I would of course help starting the clan forum, e.g. translate some of my guides/threads, act as a mod and have a little bit of OT spam ;)

I wouldn't want to be the first address as "clan owner", because due to my job there may be days oder weeks I cannot reach any internet computer to fulfil my tasks.

I may be able to supervise it for you, though there are a great many changes for me on the horizon; nevertheless, I believe I can find my way into the forum most of the time (and I will, if it is humanly possible).

But if there is someone gifted with more than an astounding presence here, feel free to take on the job :).

I really like this idea, unless I quit playing some month ago... An English speaking part of the forum would be obviously great so let's spend some effort in this!

Don't know if you want vorrecting but it should be "E really like this idea, although I quit playing some months ago". Sry in case you didn't want to be corrected.

Anyways. as I said, I would be a mod in such a clan forum.

How could I improve, when there's noone correcting me, so thanks!
I thought although and unless were synonyms so this was the reason for this mistake. I'll know better next time ;)

Unfortunately it could happen that I won't be able to come online for a few days, even a week or more, because I'm moving to Berlin tomorrow. But if I'm online again I really would have fun supporting the project!

Hello,

Great to see that this thread didn't die. As I already said when we first discussed the matter of a D2-related subforum: It would be great to have something like that. Since I'm browsing diabloii.net quite frequently I know that they at least use the PlanetDiablo.eu calculators as references. They do have some native germans there to help them translate one guide here or another. But I strongly feel that they would love to have something like a subforum where they could ask the PlanetDiablo-community directly. I think it would be great to open up a bit for the rest of the world. The other two great knowledge-bases (diabloii.net & the Basin) are great places for people all around the world seeking for answers. Still, they do lack some knowledge we have here (as we lack some of theirs). Why not share what we have?
As mentioned before: I would want to dedicate some of my sparetime to help . I guess it'll be the hardest thing to find some mod who is willing to supervise but I hope somebody will finally start this project!

Greets,
Mobbel

So who will open a clan forum then?

If no one else does it - I have at least a bit of experience moderating a clan forum.

And what will be the name?

Now that is a good question - I think, it should be discussed here. At least for this the thread must be good :D.

English Corner?
Clan "The Foreigners"?
Pocket of the german universe?

...

No artificial name, I want a clan name that tells us what is inside.
