And now for something completely different...

But you know, that you are able to convert the language into another language by a special .dll?

But that would implly additional work. And who would want to do that? Nobody I guess. Nonetheless you might want to try switching around the dll files in order to be able to henceforth play the game in the original version.

LotR: I cannot agree with the assumption that the German version is like a thousand year old book. I think the translation was well doen for the time it made but it just is not the same. Many of the beautiful descriptions are allmost perfectly translated to german, but what I dislike the the flow of the sentences, the transitions and often the little secret puns that the reader notices the 3rd time aound.

The third time? You read LotR more than once? :eek:

And I thought me is crazy reading the long version of stephan kings "the last stand" twice ;)

I read it three times. Two times in german and then borrowed the english original from a friend. :D

@Popelmon: I read almost everything from King. I couldn't stand the dark tower and stopped reading somewhere during the first book.

Have you seen the new trailer to hellgate London yet? (It's in English, so I am not offtopic :D )
Looks very nice and I need this game when it is on the market. But I think it won't run on my pc. :cry:

Tolkien: I must confess I haven't read LotR, neither in German nor in English.

Like me here, read it three times in German and twice in English. The Return of the King even more times, I think four times in each language.

@Riven
Well, I think you've got to be exact here. The first translation by Carroux was decent but the new one by Krege pretty much sucked. I'm just happy to have an early edition by Carroux. It doesn't look to good anymore but maybe I'll find a new copy someday.

@Popelmon
That's what I'm saying. It's a great book but not as perfect as it's often said to be.

And now for something completeley different..:p

I''ve finally found the motivation to get my fish tank up and running. Quite difficult because of the tap water here and my lack of money to soften it. So I'm somehow restricted in my choice of fish. Either some nice Tanganjika cichlids or rainbow fishes, not sure yet. But it's got to run for 4-6 weeks without fish anyway, so I still have some time decide ^^

LotR...
I didn't read that at all^^
I know that only from the cinema...
but I really want to read it :) The problem is, that I'am currently to lazy to go to a book shop and buy it :D
Beside that wo have two books in german which we have to read for school...
I have to say that are the most boring ones I've ever read but what can I do^^

By the way do you know the game Secret of Mana?
There are some really funny (english ;)) short movies about it. Once you whatched the first dozend ones you can't stop^^
there are currently 269 Episodes with 45 Spezial Episodes
http://manatheater.com/archives1.htm
simply click on the disk symbols beside the names to whatch them :)
hope you enjoy them...

uargh, i can't see any more english.
just read manuals for 3 hours, but now my linux works like i want it to do :D

now i have to do my hsitory home work...
occupation of austria by the nazis.

someone wrote h.p. above. anyone read a novel by h.p. lovecraft yet? i read "at the mountains of terror" and "der fall charles dexter ward" and i have a collection of short stories which i really like. he has a very special way of writing, and, considering that the storys are 60-70 years old, the are still kinda scarry :)

derBK: thats a strange thing about the dark tower, a lot of king fans don't like it, whereas people, which don't read king usualy like it a lot.

well, ich like king AND the dark tower :D
i especially like how he connects ALL his books in one, long story.
in every book are pieces of the dark tower.
in "it", one of the person talks about a turle: turle in dark tower.
pere callahan from "brennen muss salem" is a main charakter in the dark tower, as is randall flagg from "the last stand"

Lovecraft is a fantastic author. The Dexter Ward-Story is great.

King does that kind of connecting his stories a lot. Insomnia has an awful lot of references to IT, the author in 'Stark'(my favourite King) gets mentioned a few times in other books, etc. Espacially all the books that take place in Maine are wellconnected.

As I don't know anything about fishes and fish tanks I wish you much luck in your task. Of course you can always walk to the next swimming pool an find some very clean water there. But you know that of course ;)

By the way do you know the game Secret of Mana?
Remembers me of the quest for glorys series

At first i want to tell you, i've just read the starting post and the question including it.

I installed both a german and an english version of d2 to train my english skills ( :D ),

and play randomly one of them (can't differ (unterscheiden?) them, because they got
similiar names lol ^^

i like the idea of this thread; i think i will have a look at it quite often :D
(actually i realize my english is not thaaaat good :p)

thanks for that link^^
now I finaly know what a steed is (google translated that 1:1^^
Steed=Steed...)
Well time to go back to work, 6 LoD AIs translated, I'll do the succubuswhich now and than finish for today :)

Why are you translating LoD AIs?

And, on a similar note: Will there ever be an update to the sneJ-Mod? Or is work on it officially done? I am still waiting for that balance-patch :D

He's a Modder, they're...well...different.

I quit playing it when realizing that the first levels are a pain, and after you mastered the graveyard with the help of a merc you were the equivalent of level 20 - 25 in vanilla LoD :irre: ...a bit boring thereafter, the game.

Simon

I hate those translating pages... the stuff that you need you will not find in any. The most engines only cover the like 5000 most common words, which is a pain. I prefer ly Langenscheid und my Oxford dictionairy.

well, after a long period of time we are going to realese the balance patch this year :)
we plan to do that at least, I can promise nothing :D
at least my balance for the random resistance is ready, the items will be heavily rebalanced and will no longer be such as overpowered as they used to be nowadays. We are 2/3 done :)

and I'm translating that stuff because thats the best way to learn more about this. I have already translated many File Guides too. So I easily gain much more knowlege and beside that I even help some more peaple who don't like to read all that stuff in English and even more complicated form as I do here :)

@Yawg:
I tested a lot of mods and i still think sneJ is the best one. Besides getting an A+ for effort, there's just really much new stuff to find.

Sadly, it has some balance issues in the form of some overpowered equipment like the bow of strategy(think Wildwitchstrink with 100+% Crushing Blow, absurd Damage und multiple Sockets), some Setarmor with 1500+ Magicfind and some other stuff.

But the raised maximum level for chars and skills (from 99/20 to 5000/60) opens quite a few new possibilities for charbuilds, like a Necromancer with maxed out Summonskills AND Venomskills. Good times running the Overdungeon with him :D

@destrution:
This year? in 2006? :D
Good to hear you are still working on it, i almost feared you were done with it. I'm looking forward to it.

Ô.o and I thought the maximum was 400...now THAT'S the reason the level is that high after the 'yard...

Well, new things to find are nice and good (or not, if TOO good); but sadly, at least the beginning (and the second act with my summoner :angel: ) are excruciatingly boring, because after mastering the graveyard - hurdle, you will be nigh unstoppable...with access to all relevant skills you need for your charbuild. In act 1.

Also, I have found this "Punch me now!!!" - shield with really strange DMG - reduce...about 73 physical reduce? 'cuse me, but standing in the middle of a enemy horde who try their best to kill you but don't cause you any lifeloss at all is not my definition of fun.

Granted, later on it might be more difficult. But right now I don't have the nerve to go farther. Might try it, but first I have to complete my druid, the model for my guide.

Simon

When I started playing sneJ mod, I choose a freezer for first character.

At the time, when you get your first damage-aura like Holy Fire, it is quite boring since every enemie dies faster than you can reach them.

But the Bossmonsters like Diablo were too hard to kill, but I spent a lot time to push the pala to akt5 hell.

Ok, there I am now, doing pindel-runs. If they hit me twice there, my pala dies very quickly....

Well, I have to say, I am not a very lucky person, item-finding concernd. So usually all games are very hard for me...
Unfortunately, the websides are not so good organised.... and the modders are having a rest from modding since a longer time...

Maybe I will reinstall sneJ later on :)
