And now for something completely different...

For me, it is quite equal if I read a book in english or german.

Ditto.

But understanding an english film, when the characteres got a really bad accent is very hard for me.

Ditto.

I am totally specialised on the good old Oxford english :)

Like our teacher :p .

In the Blub forum, I am looking for some very or not so very creativ person, who can help to improve my signature... I do not like it anymore ... ;(

If we agree on my ideas there, too, we can be quite a happy couple :D .

@BK: This board seems to be interesting. Might even visit it.

I read Stephen Kings 'IT' in the english original with 14 years. I already read the german book 2 or 3 times up to then, so i was not illprepared. I got myself a decent dictionary and morked my way through it. And then once more. That took an awful lot of time but it helped my english language very much. Today i read books only in their english original, if possible. I roam through englishspeaking forums on the internet. The same is true for watching DVDs. Currently i am watching "Married with Children". I just arrived at the end of the fourth season. 3 more seasons (=9 DVDs) to go :D It's so much more funny than the german translation.

EDIT@everyone who read "Der Herr der Ringe": go get yoursef the original. Seriously. It's worth it.

I ALWAYS sound like a tyranT, because I am one.

Just pretending to, mad Mister...

Well, I didn't ask YOU, did I? Go and rid myself of you, I can't stand to have the likes of you in my Posts.

Well, on this we can agree.

Excellent. So, are you going now?

I agree with you on the "can't stand each other" subject.

Ah, that reminds me of the common mistake of confusing "each other" with "yourself"...

MYself, you want to say.

Oh, well, OK, Mister "I know everything better than thou"!

Of course, drago :) This thread has it roots in my idea, which got really good feedback, but to get this in the practical party is not so easy at the moment, so I was really happy to get some support by a member like you. It's really nice to see this "idea" growing up like that.

I'm interested about the patience in this thread. I really hope that we will get soon some nice guides in english which get the quality from the german guides :)

Maybe some staff member realize that thread and will write in article on mainpage for the news... taht will be great and may help us to get guys from other countries.

I'm thinking of translating my guide for the zerk-barbarian into English. But that's a pretty long one. And I'm not to sure that there's any interest, wouldn't want to do it if nobody read it..

I will read it... I'm interested in something lime that. Maybe I will try in translating my Clone-Hunting-Guide and my IK-MF-Guide...

And as I am quite good as a proof-reader I offer my help too if you want. Maybe I translate the boner guide to english but this will take some time and time is nothing I have too much of at the moment. This will probably also lead to a nono in the case of a mafia game for me. At least for the rest of the year.

The last place was taken shortly after my proposal anyway :p .

Luckily, the year won't last much longer. Yearning to kill you :flame: .

arrr, i just crashed my ubuntu/linux.
bad thing: i can't blame anybody/thing but myself :/
stupid me.

@bk is think the lord of the rings is a bit overrated.
not a bad book (not at all), but there are much better ones out there, like for example, stephen kings dark tower series. seriously, read it.

Funny..to my mind King is way overrated, hardly literature. Lord of the Rings is a difficult case. The book itself is good but nothing too spectacular. Middle-Earth and it's creation is what makes Tolkien's work so great.

I'm sad..being a huge fan of boxing I always love to see a great fight. But obviously Axel was only interested in collection his 3,000,000€ for the fight;/

Translating guides to a "merely" 6 year old game is a real time-waster. You might wanna ask some arts-graduates to do it, they are typically bored anyway. hehe

Terry Pratchett's discworld novels are my favourite. Hilarious though complex and challenging. Most of the stuff is referring to the ticks of existing cultures and Terry has a very charismatic way of making things sound ridiculous. Once, I met him at a book-signing session – funny little dude.

I have to disagree with on the point. I consider Tolkien one of the greatest authors of the last century. He might be overhyped due to the making of the trilogy for movie theaters, but he is still a great author. I read Lord of the Rings in both English and German and must say that the English version is just a lot better, say what you want.

About an English version of good old mafia. You will surely be able to count me in for that. I guess it will not be that hard to gather about 10-15 players for that.

OT: damn, still have to read the entire bok of Genesis from the Bible for me litereture class... I did not like it in German, when I first read read, and the English verison is not any better.

That reminds me I have to translate something which has been ready for weeks...
damn I think I have given too much work to myself...
writing some lists and FAQs is not that easy if you want to be ready until christmas but you don't find any time to make it :wand:
well, time to start translating some LoD AIs^^

Hi to all - i believe this thread is a very nice idea. But i'm tired up a bit so i doesn't read all the pages . . So sry if i doesn't have followed your conversation back there.

If the question from the first post is still up-to-date than i have to say that im playing the german version of d2. Just because i bought it in a lokal shop and there was only the german version available. I thinks it makes no difference if you play the german version - exept if you are playing with non german players (im not able to keep all the english unic names in mind :=)

In generall i rather play RPG's in german - you can relax more if you can hear or read your mothertongue.

sure, it is a _lot_ better in english, but it is still overrated. the efort which tolkien invested in his books is something entierly else, i'm just amazed by the perfectness of his background work. who invents a whole language just for a book? tolkien did :)

I read "Lord of the rings" only in German, but I'll buy it definetely in English. I dislike the german version a bit, because I got bored by the language. I don't know whether the original version is better, but the translation sounds like a thousands years old book with a great background story.

Speaking of HP, I only have the sixth book in English, the others (and the sixth ;) ) in German. The development of language and content was also noticable in the german version, although there are many points in the sixth books I don't like.

But you know, that you are able to convert the language into another language by a special .dll?
